Cruisin' US 66
Design
In 1993, Anderson Productions was in the midst of producing the video "Cruisin' Oklahoma 66." A logo was created for the video sleeve showing the shape of the state of Oklahoma in yellow, the path of 66 in red, and the Word "Cruisin'" in blue. The vintage-style shield was set in the lower right part of the state.
Upon release of the video in 1994, t-shirts were silk-screened using the same design. Mugs, embroidered caps and visors followed. The logo was then adapted for the other 7 states and silk-screened tees and embroidered caps bearing the individual states logos were produced.
Although colorful in appearance, the product line was not successful. The solid coverage of yellow apparently led to fears of the shirts being hot and inflexible. Plus, the state-by-state approach limited the marketability of the products.
And so the US design was born. Instead of solid yellow, the shape of the US is outlined in yellow. The eight states are listed at the bottom, using the stamped style of lettering found on the old 66 metal shields and license plates. On black, the effect is almost neon-like, especially as what would normally be black ink is printed in purple.
